St Paul 11+

The math paper is very difficult, the hardest of all exams my son sat so far. Now he said the Hampton math paper looks easy! Almost every question in Section C is very hard.

Anyone else has their DS sitting the exam today? What do they think?

do you mean 11+ or 13+? when was the exam? Jan 9th or 10th? My son sat 13+ on Monday the 9th, yes, Math was the hardest so far, but not very bad.

AC7001 · 11/01/2023 08:07

I mean 11+ on 10th Jan. Probably not the same paper as yours but not sure the same level of difficulty or format. There are Sections A B and C. Is that same as yours? A is easy, B is manageable but C is really hard. Only the Set 1 boys in DS prep sat St Paul and none finished C or know how to do all questions in Section C. Most only managed about half of it.

I see. Then the Maths papers were in different formats. 13+ one didn't have sections, there were a total of 15 questions, each divided into a few sub questions, ending up to ~60 blanks to be filled. My DS didn't finished all of them, only be confident with ~2/3.

AC7001 · 11/01/2023 10:12

My son said Section A should be all correct (except careless mistakes I suppose), Section B may be 90%, but certainly less than half of the marks for Section C.

Yesterday only about 120-150 boys sat the exam as I observed (but then for only 36 spaces). How many sat the 13+ exam you guess?

It seems your DS didp not?bad at all. For 13+, one group in the morning, and another in the afternoon. I would guess ~110 in each? So slightly above 220 boys called back for 2nd round? which is a reasonable number I

believe😅

Does anyone know how many were invited for interview? Interesting that the interview will take 3 hours including an hour activities

Gladitsover22 · 13/01/2023 22:16

DS sat SPS last year at 11+. At interview, the head was very open about results and tells you exactly where your DS was ranked. My recollection is that 500 sat the pre-test, out of which 170 were called back for second round and then 130 were called back for interview. 36 places were on offer and I don’t think they massively over offer as the uptake is so high.

What activities are on offer this year? Last year, they had Sports, Drama or Music.

Thanks for the info! This year the activities are art, music, drama and sport

Best of luck to you all. I remember the brutality of the 11+ all too well.

May I know what do they do in the 3 hours apart from the 1-hour activity session? Also, do we as parents meet individually with the Head, and is that in essence a parent interview? What questions do they ask?

Do you happen to know the breakdown for 13+? Debating whether my ds sits the 11+ or 13+ next year.
