A Level History NEA

My son is doing 3.5 A Levels one of which is History which he hates. He has not done his NEA and to be honest I don't think he will. So my question is can you pass without doing it or is it a condition of getting a grade?

Surely he would just lose a certain % of his marks? It's like missing a paper. Can you not get him to spend an hour on it and get a few marks?

Nea is worth 20% of the overall grade. For AQA it's marked out of 40 - can you say what board he does?

I do the NEA with my class (AQA) so can offer advice if it's that board!

NEA deadline isn't until after Easter (don't tell him that!) It's very hard to get 35 or more out of 40 but not that hard if you're reasonably bright to get to 20 out of 40. You could crack a good chunk in a solid weekend or two!

It's 20% of the final grade, so worth doing imo.
Ds1 spent a looong time on his and got 38/40.
If the question isn't too broad 2 months should be enough to get a decent grade
