Secondary schools in Sheffield

Good evening all and happy new year!!!

Could someone please help. We are purchasing a property in Mosborough ( S20) but I am now starting to worry about secondary schools.

Do the schools below only accept children based on catchment? My research shows that these are some of the best schools in Sheffield so I am keen to understand more about the catchment.

I am also open to any suggestions on any other secondary which does not apply catchment but considered, good please.

King Ecberts
Silverdale
King Edward's
Tapton
Notre Dame

Thanks a lot

Mosborough is quite a distance from all those schools. You can apply for shy school, but I suspect you won't be very high priority based on distance alone.

Have you seen this info from Sheffield City Council?

Mosborough usually feeds into either Eckington or Westfield. Westfield now has some kind of executive leadership from Silverdale and is apparently doing well.

Mosborough is lovely! Will you have children at mosborough primary?

Notredame is very hard to get into unless you’re a practising Catholic with evidence of such. You also have to list it as your 1st choice. I know children from s20 who have attended but only due to having the above.

I have friends in that area, Westfield isn't great. I think Eckington or Aston just over the border into Derbyshire are better. You won't have a chance of getting into Silverdale, King Ecgberts etc out of catchment.

Sorry Aston is Rotherham rather than Derbyshire, but still a better school than Westfield ( unless things have changed a lot in the last few years)

You can find enrolment info on the council website and it'll show you how many out of catchment children have gotten in for all the schools in Sheffield. You're a long way away from any of these schools. I live less than 0.5 mile out of catchment for one of them and we have no chance of getting in. They are very oversubscribed.

Aston and Eckington have both gone downhill in recent years while Westfield seems to be on the up.
If your child goes to Ridgeway primary instead of Mosborough, you could always try for Dronfield Henry Fanshawe. Also know of children from Charnock Prinary in S12 getting into DHF.

If you are a practicing Catholic you could try for All Saints which is near the city centre but right on the tram route. Might also be worth a try if you are a practicing Christian or practicing any other recognised religion.

You won't get into any of the schools you have listed from Mosborough, at least til sixth form. Sheffield operates a comprehensive system, so other than church and special schools it's catchment that counts.
