Year 7 exams / assessments

Hey, just looking for some opinions please. My DS is in Year 7 (local school) and has mid year assessments in January for all subjects, this means that over the christmas holidays he has been given alot of homework as well as test exam papers and revision. In order to do it all he'd need to be working around 2 hours minimum per day every day of the holidays (excluding xmas day and boxing day).

He could probably complete just the compulsory homework quicker but with all the test papers and additional revision it would need a couple of hours a day.

I am trying to ensure he has plenty of fun stuff to do and we have some days out planned etc but I'm getting worried about him getting all the work done and don't want to put on too much pressure when he is only in Year 7 and this is all very new.

I want him to do his best for him but feel like i'm obsessing over ensuring he does everything so I'd just like to know how others would approach this, was really hoping he'd have some downtime over the holidays, it feels like alot.

That's a crazy amount for y7.

Maybe discuss how much he feels up to doing, and prioritise subjects (eg core subjects and his favourite ones).

Thank you for replying, I also think its a huge amount but think you are right, maybe need to just prioritise the key subjects. The results also affect what set he goes into, he's currently in middle set for all subjects that are in sets so he doesn't want to go down so maybe I just help him focus on those subjects. Thank you.

That's ridiculous in Year 7. I would personally suggest he has at least a week off and then do what he can in the remaining time.

I would also suggest there is no way on earth that the majority of the year will be doing 2 hours a day so he'll be in a good company.
I would not expect assessments to form the sole basis of setting.
