What senior schools manage out pupils

I have seen some posts on the board about some senior schools managing out their students that don’t do well on GSCE’s. It would be useful to know which schools are known to do this if anyone could share?

… and a certain school in Brighton is very good at gaming the system. Not exactly managing out the low performers, more like booking then under another entity for the purposes (or rather ignorance) of league tables. Smart!

Mercia in Sheffield, all pupils who want to go to the Sixth Form have to pass an entrance exam & interview. The Sixth Form is purely academic, no vocational courses & pupils must have GCSE passes at a minimum of grade 7.

Mercia is just a selective sixth form though, not one that insidiously “manages out”. Their published criteria is a little higher than state schools in my area, but it’s totally upfront.

All sixth forms are selective to some extent or other.

Even if they don't have set entry requirements for the whole sixth form, they will have criteria for each subject!

That is terrible! My son had a similar experience. Poor GCSE’s grades with one class doing so awful and not even passing the GCSE. A school that is all about the money and show! Definitely not academic.

King’s Ely in Cambridgeshire tried to manage out my child. The headteacher was extremely hostile and intimidating.

Wow. Why? They seem to keep everyone on usually and actively try to keep those wanting to switch to elsewhere at each stage.

@Tweetinat @Dappletree See my answer above this. It wasn't our experience at all of King's Ely. The only student I ever knew who was managed out was managed out because of behavioural issues where it was suggested they may wish to look elsewhere for 6th Form.
