Hi my daughter is taking her GCSEs next year as a home schooler. Can anyone help me with an exam centre that will be doing German? I'm in Dorset and can't find anywhere that will be doing it. Apparently it's hardly taught anymore? Getting stressed!

Have you tried local private schools, or 6th form/FE colleges?

Hi I have had some involvement with Tutors and Exams and AFAIK they facilitate German GCSE and iGCSE (they deffo did last year). They have a centre in Taunton which might work, or High Wycombe. No idea on fees or timings as I was an examiner but hth.

I can recommend Tutors and Exams too.

Are you on Facebook? There are lots and lots of national Facebook groups dealing with the specifics of taking exams as a home educated child. As you can imagine, your challenges are common ones, and people talk endlessly about the topic of where to sit exams and which spec to choose. I can almost guarantee that if you get any two parents together who are home educating teens, the conversation will turn to the nitty gritty of sitting exams within ten minutes!

Or have you asked on a local home ed group? Here are links to some: www.home-education.org.uk/forums.htm

Here is some info in case you need to change exam board: he-exams.fandom.com/wiki/German

Thanks for all your help. Yes I'm on the FB pages and there have been lots of suggestions but none of the exam centres are offering German. I'm trying all the local schools and colleges too, bit of a nightmare!

You made me panic there op but I just checked and Tutors and Exams are still listing German as an offer.

Its a bit overdramatic to proclaim “its hardly taught any more”. True mfls are not as popular as some other choices, but that has long been the case, and in a bog standard comp here and we had 3 classes students doing gcse german last year.
