Kneller Hall / Radnor House - 2023 facilities

Hi - I registered my DC for Y8 2023 entry, but wondered if anyone knows what facilities they are likely to have access to?

It sounds like they are looking to expand their current year groups when they move in September, but again I couldn’t get details on how big the new year groups would be, or whether there’d be additional GCSEs offered.

Anyone have any insider info?!

Could you phone admissions? I’m sure someone would be able to answer all your questions. They have some quite detailed plans.

KindergartenKop · 08/11/2022 22:01

I thought the capacity was for year groups to be about 120. Not 100% sure though. I doubt they will all be full straight away.

OP, some of the info on this thread might be helpful to you: www.mumsnet.com/talk/secondary/4577394-radnor-house-how-selective

Thanks all. The school were a little vague on what exactly was happening in 2023 (other than that they are definitely moving to the new site), so whilst I feel I know what the long-term plan is I’m not sure what the first couple of years will be like and how much of a building-site feel the school will have. Or even what size year group they’re hoping for for 2023.

if any current y6 parents have been given more info then happy to hear!

@2hotin22 , it's worth searching on the Orchard House Prep thread in the Education section of MN if you haven't already. I'm not a parent but it's obvious to anyone who works in the private sector in SW London that Dukes intends to fill Kneller Hall with dc from the prep schools they have bought plus the large demand across the area for a mixed private secondary pegged below KGS etc. But how many years that takes and how many parents will sign up probably won't be apparent until the first day of term in Sept 23. Also if for any reason they can't move into the new site in Sept they have enough space at their other schools - ie Hampton Court House - to house the cohort in the short term. It will interesting to hear about the offers sent out in Feb 23 regarding location of the school ie how water tight it is.

I wasn't a fan of HCH, I hope this isn't going to happen!

BleuNoir · 13/11/2022 18:01

Is there any point applying then, if you’re not at one of Duke’s feeder schools?

it looks like they’ll be a CEM test to weed out the brightest kids and then they’ll take those?

However maybe not. as an external candidate, with no links to Dukes it’s a bit worrying. They seem to have made automatic promises and offers to all year 6s at Orchard House and Prospect House. Is it even worth trying as an external candidate?

I also don’t want HCH. Read enough on here that it’s not somewhere I’d want at all for DC

KindergartenKop · 13/11/2022 18:27

@BleuNoir how many y6s are there in all at those schools though? RH only has 20 or so and there are 120ish spaces to fill!

KindergartenKop · 13/11/2022 18:29

@BleuNoir also I suppose you need to factor in the parents who send their kids to prep to get them into a grammar. Not all the prep kids will fill those spaces.

boredboredbore · 13/11/2022 18:48

Lots of children at Prospect House in particular won't be aiming for Radnor House/Kneller Hall. Have a look at their current destination schools.I
t's a similar set up with Ravenscourt Prep and Kew House- lots will be aiming for other schools with those as a back up.

They have made automatic offers at pretty much all their prep schools nearby, Broomfield for instance in addition to Orchard House. I still think you would have a chance being external. The demand has not changed much yet, it is relatively easy to get into Radnor without the additional capacity they will have from next year.
Question is if you want to be part of the big experiment, and pay for the ensuing fees that line the pockets of the banks financing this and the private equity firm behind it.

Just need to look at @Coronateachingagain posts on orchard house school and clearly has a massive weird issue. Ex angry member of staff or ex angry parent. Either way- sad and desperate! What’s your problem?!?

hockeygrass · 11/03/2023 18:01

@MrsSeeGreen , have you read the other Kneller Hall thread and the delay of (at least) 1 yr to the new site with the senior school remaining where it is and the prep moving to the Falcons prep site. Of course announced once deposits are paid but obvious to anyone who lives locally and knows about planning applications.

Well neither 😅 just live in the area and know people close to the school
