Camden School for girls Sixth Form

Does Anyone know what the catchment is for the sixth form in Camden School for girls? How far did it go last few years?

How big is the Sixth Form? It says they offer around 140 places for external students.? Do many girls move out for sixth form then?

I would be grateful for any other advice reg the sixth form. We managed to book for 2pm on the open day as the 5pm was fully booked; however my daughter won’t be able to attend as she has an exam that time.

Thank you

According to its Determined Admission Arrangements for 2023/24, the school has a PAN of 120 for year 7 entry and according to the DfE, in 2019, 198 girls took A levels. So assuming that the PAN for 2012 entry (the year that 2019 A level takers started secondary school) was also 120 and that the admission arrangements for year 12 entry were the same as they are for 2023, then it would appear that +/- half of the year group move elsewhere after GCSEs.

Also according to the Admissions policy, there is no catchment area for the sixth form, the final oversubscriptioncriterion being sgtraight line distance.

i may have got this wrong, but my impression is that the oversubscription criteria (mainly siblings and possibly more specifically, the level of (over)subscription for specific A levels) might lead to quite a bit of variation both from year to year and between applicants for different sets of subjects, since once a particular course is deemed full, no more offers are made to anyone wanting a particular A level, regardless of places being available in their other requested subjects, e.g. very oversubscribed subjects filling up very quickly before much distance is reached, whilst an application for a combination of less popular subjects might mean success from much further away. www.camdengirls.camden.sch.uk/attachments/download.asp?file=3431&type=pdf

As to what kind of distances actually tend to be involved wrt sixth form offers, not a clue, I'm afraid (not in the area, but was intrigued by the apparently large intake of external applicants, so looked the school up). Presumably the school would have that information, but as far as I can see, for the reasons I picked out above, it's unlikely to be one distance, like with yr7 entry. And knowing that the furthest of all was x miles / metres doesn't necessarily help, if one of the subjects your DD is applying for is the most oversubscribed on offer and the last place for someone with that in their application normally goes to someone several miles / metres closer.

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply and investigate. I appreciate it.

DD will apply and see how it goes. She wants to do chemistry, maths and is deciding about the third one as she also likes DT but Camden doesn’t have it.

I know my niece was offered a 6th form place there a couple of years ago, and were happy for her to do art having only done DT at GCSE. But she decided to stay where she was in the end. Can't help regarding distance as my London geography is shaky!

Thanks. I don’t think my daughter wants to do art as her third choice; she really likes DT/Design Engineering; maybe she will choose Geography, Spanish or Photography.

Oh, *Grasswollbegreener, do you mind me asking where your niece did sixth form? Did she end up following the art route to uni?

Hi @Moonlight75 where did your daughter end up going? Mine is about to start looking at sixth forms around North London, any info or tips welcome! thanks
