Eleven plus after delayed primary school entry

Does anyone know how this works?

Are you just not allowed to sit the test, do you have to sit in year 5, do you just get weighted down more heavily? Is it different for different boroughs? We were planning to delay my (late august, premature) daughter’s start, and didn’t think grammars were an issue as we are happy with the local comp, but we’re in Lewisham and when we’ve toured primaries heads have mentioned lots of their kids take the tests for Bexley and Kent schools.

I don’t want to limit her options now if that’s something she might want to do in the future.

You must contact the grammars to see if they are happy with a child taking the 11 plus when in effect they are 12 plus. Delayed start can mean getting into correct year later. It would hardly be fair if all summer born DC defer and don’t take it as 11 plus. You need to check though.

This is what Bucks say. They have to agree to it.

My friend's son had a delayed entry (born 28 Aug) to primary but he sat the 11+ and passed too. At the time of applying he had to give a letter to supplement it and explain why they had a delayed start. Age standardization will impact the score but it won't be too far from September born kids I think.

My DD was August born and went into correct age group as she was mature and bright. She passed 11 plus with 1 mark off top mark. You get age weighted score of course as August born in correct year. 4 DC in her year group
got full marks and all were summer born in correct year.
