Hi all

We are planning to buy a house in Wanstead, Woodford Green, South Woodford, Chigwell, Loughton, Buckhurst Hill.

Can you recommend secondary school for my DD who is now in Year 7, please?

Based on schools we a slightly adjust our location.

I rang few comprehensive & grammar schools but none them were able to tell if they had any place. They just directed me to speak with Borough admissions dept.

Also, Redbridge Borough couldn't provide me details with in-year admission for grammar schools

Your help will be greatly appreciated as we moved from Ireland only late last year.

My guess is you are starting your call with "Hi, I am planning on moving to the area ...." which the local authority can't really work with. They might be able to tell you schools with current vacancies in the Borough but if you are asking about specific schools then you can only go on the waitlist when you have a definite address to work from.

A grammar school admission would require your child doing an exam, passing the test, and then being placed on a waiting list. The Redbridge grammars have a common catchment area too, and you would really need to be inside it.

Your problem is that even if one of the schools had a place now, could you take it up in 2 weeks? A place would not be held for you longer than that.

Are you resident in the area already? Does your child have a school?

You can apply online and then see your place on waiting lists, but Redbridge have no obligation to offer a place until you are resident. Redbridge co-ordinate the in-year admissions for most schools in the area, so the schools are correct to point you there, especially in year 7 as lists will still be moving a fair bit.
