Is it time to go?

Been told that I’m on an ‘informal development plan’ with a Teaching and Learning Coordinator, which is to last 6 weeks. This is because in 2 recent learning walks they’ve not seen good relationships with students (bearing in mind that in the 2nd learning walk it was the first time I’d taught the class).

I asked what the stage after that is if I fail and she said informal development with SLT member which is also 6 weeks.

I asked what was next, which is the formal support for appraisal for 6 weeks. Note that I haven’t had my appraisal targets set. She said it’s rare to get this far.

Can I just say that between those 2 learning walks I had a formal observation that was deemed secure.

Anyway, after that is capability.

Shall I look for jobs now? What is the latest I should resign i.e. before the formal support for appraisal starts? If I were to go on to that, would it be mentioned on references? I know it would be for capability.

Thanks

How is a learning walk long enough to know anything about your relationship with the kids?

What actually was going on when they saw you?

Are you new to the school?

Speak to your head of department and ask people for more specific feedback. Let them know how upsetting this is for you and how unsupported you feel.

Yes, this is 4 weeks into a job role change and no one has asked me how I’m coping. Instead of having a meeting to see how I am, they’ve slapped this on me.

Are you in a union? I'd contact them ASAP.

Job role change isn't necessarily new school, what's it been like there previously if you aren't new?

It does seem heavy handed but if reflect critically on what they have said, can you see a truth there?
