CAT4 vs MidYIS

Hi all,

My DC had to sit a CAT4 test for entry into an independent school back in January. DC got in and, at the start of term, had to do a MidYIS test. I have the results from both tests and am scratching my head a bit because the MidYIS scores seem quite a bit lower than the CAT4 scores.

DC had good scores in the CAT4 test (verbal 105, quantitative 131, non-verbal 135, spatial 125 and mean 124) but weaker scores in the MidYIS test (vocab 97, maths 122, non-verbal 112, skills 103 and overall 111). AFAIK, all scores are normalised to a mean of 100 and (other than the mean/overall) a standard deviation of 15 and should therefore be on the same scale. I'm afraid I was only given the scores and not the confidence bands around them.

I know it's possible DC may have just been feeling a bit off on the day of the MidYIS test, but want to check if there may be more fundamental reasons for such a discrepancy. Has anyone seen this before? Can any experts or experienced forum users shed some light?

Interesting. When one of my DC did these tests (about 3 years apart) their mean scores were within 2 marks.
