Exactly what I’m asking in my thread title . Do Independant schools give a Bursary and a Grant ? As the forms look both the same that we have been sent out . One says Bursary one says Grant. Does anyone know ? They both got the same info on aswell that needs to be filled out thank you .

Ours gives out bursaries (means tested) and scholarships
Both are extremely competitive, from an academic point of view and a talent/giftedness POV (scholarships)

Ours gives out bursaries and scholarships. No grants. Scholarships you have to excel in an area and only give 10% off fees. Bursaries can be up to 100%. I don't think you have to excel at the exam to receive one, just pass and also be eligible but I could be wrong on this point!
If you say which school you are applying for we might be able to better advise.

Not heard the term Grant for decades! Bursaries are means tested, scholarships performance related. Both discretionary.

Children will probably need to be able to spell better than their parents.

My daughter had a bursary for a GDST school via HSBC. This was five years ago so I am unaware of more recent assistance

the one my dc go to offer bursaries which are means tested and go to children who meet the academic entrance criteria ( usually towards the top end) and whose parents can’t afford the fees. Scholarships are for talent in a particular area- they give a small fee discount but are more about status and extra focus once at the school.
