Teachers not allowed in toilets?

There is an issue with girls vaping at my daughter's school, which we understood was dealt with last term. However, it appears it is still going on as my daughter (12) has told me the girls are vaping in the toilets & the older girls are supplying the younger ones. Anyway, when I spoke to the school about it I was told they try to keep an eye out but they cannot enter the toilets without knocking, which then alerts the girls...is this a school policy, or a more general one? Why can't a female staff member walk in without knocking and catch them in the act?! It seems crazy to me but I want to be armed with the facts before I go back to them. Any secondary teachers on here that can confirm or deny? It's a private school if that makes any difference.

Secondary school teahcer here. School are correct, staff can't just walk in. It places us at a risk of allegations, and is a safeguarding nightmare.

I have had to go into toilets occaisonally, but I knock first, stand in the open doorway and take a colleague if possible.

This is what my high school teachers did also stand in the doorway.

It's likely if the girls are vaping it will be inside the actual cubicles so no point of the teacher going further than the doorway.

This was happening in the boys toilets at my ds school last term. The female deputy head was walking past and smelt it, she didn’t hesitate, she burst in and bollocked them all big time - very loudly apparently! Then their parents were all phoned.

The large comprehensive I invigilate in has the open plan toilets, very open to the corridor with sinks in the centre. No nonsense goes on because there’s nowhere to hide.

No doors at our school either. The kids just do it in the cubicles and ' zero' it so nobody knows so my 14 year old dd tells me.

The vaping is rife. I knew it was bad as a teacher but feel like have had my eyes opened since dd hit 14. Even kids I wouldn't expect do it.

I don't know the answer.

Teacher here for nearly 30 years. In my school we would probably just go in with another member of staff. Years ago as a newly qualified teacher I had to do.break duty in the girl's toilets😫I always stink of cigarettes. After a while I refused to do this
