Child asking for help

DS started year 7 last week. A student joined a little later, and sits next to DS. Today, DS mentioned that said student keeps asking for help during the lessons. The help is usually things along the lines of, asking DS to show the notes because he misses the slides (I'm assuming is a little slower copying down from slides).

I've asked DS if that feels disruptive (he likes to get his head down), and so he isn't happy about it (but gets along very well with other child).

Would you just see how things pan out? I appreciate it's a huge change for all the children, and it might just be a case of it taking a little while longer for other child to get used to things/speeds etc.

Do you have a "meet the form tutor" evening soon? A lot of schools have one in the first few weeks. It might be worth mentioning to the form tutor - they might be able to look into why the child misses the slides. It's not unknown for a child who needs glasses to copy from the child next to them without thinking to mention to anyone that they might need a sight test (or just to copy because they don't want to be seen in their glasses). Or they may be slow with the writing or organising themselves.
