It was written on the website that they strongly recommend those in prep that goes to 13 should apply 13+. But when I ask the admission staff, they said it doesn't matter, my boy (being in a prep that goes to 13) can apply either.

Does anyone know if they would not process or at least will dislike those applications for 11+ from boys in prep that goes up to 13?

You need to ask your prep school if they will write the reference for your ds to take the 11plus or if they want your ds to stay until 13.

My son applied for SPJ 11+ in 2020/21 from a school that goes to 13 and he was accepted. The only thing I would say is that the odds are perhaps worse - generally around 6-8 of the 36-42 boys accepted at 11+ are from private schools, but then again, fewer apply at this stage than at 13+.

Do you sense that they prefer state school kids at 11+?

It is a fact that it is the state school entry point but they do take a few private school kids, hence the much smaller numbers. My friend at private school called the office to ask if it was ok to apply at 11+ and was "encouraged" to apply at 13+.

I wanted out of our current school and made the decision to take the gamble as I would have just sent my son to a different school if he hadn't got in - I just knew whatever happened we were leaving our current school at the end of year 6. In September 21 there were around 8 private school kids from an intake of 42.

I'm guessing the intake varies depending on how many children have let between joining at 7+ and year 7.
