Train fares for children advice

My 11 year old has to get the train to school; either Southeaster or Thameslink. It is a 20 min ride and costs £2.10 each way on the Thameslink with an Oyster card. Wondering if there is a cheaper way? Season ticket for students?

Thank you

Do you mean the Zip Oyster, which gives the holder their child discount and free bus rides? I think my DS pays about £1.50 (single) for his Overground ride to school with his card.

Yes, the Zip Oyster for 11 to 15. Wondering if that is the cheapest way or if there is another season ticket with the trainline operator which works cheaper

You can add child rate weekly/monthly or annual travelcards to their ZipCard which usually work out cheaper if they are travelling every day to and from school.

I just need help getting my child into the habit of swiping IN and OUT - otherwise its going to cost me a fortune in penalty fares!!

Thank you. I will look into the monthly travel cards
