Hi everyone, we are considering to move to Salisbury and would like our daughter to study at South Wilts Grammar School asap.

It was known that there are 3 other students in the waiting list of SWGS, so all of them have to take entrance tests of several subjects to compete for a vacancy.

I wonder if it worths for us to move to Salibury? Do you think that my daughter has a high chance of getting into SWGS? She gets top 10 in an outstanding school.

Any comments would be much appreciated, thanks a lot for your advice!

How old is she?
What would be your option if there are no spaces at the grammar?
(You could alternatively come next door to Hants where we have a number of very good comps.)

Is that 3 other students already on the waiting list for her specific year?

If so, then they have already "passed" the tests, and have been placed on the lists in accordance with SWGS admissions criteria - which are on their website. If your daughter passes, she would be put on the list according to those, which given your circumstances would I imagine be based on your home address. SWGS simply have a "pass" mark, and do not determine allocations based on the actual score above that.

thanks for your reply 🙏

she is studying the Year 9 course at the school year 2022/23,
and Wyvern and St Edmund's would be an alternatve for her

yes, the 3 other students on the waiting list are also in Year 9 this year, same as our daughter, sorry for the unclear descriptions.

but that means our daughter would be a less prior situation even if she passes the tests :( thanks a lot for your reply 🙏🙏

I don't have any knowledge about SWGS but my son goes to WyvernStEds. It's a fantastic school and he has been challenged academically. We purposely chose this school over the boys' grammar due to the many wider, extracurricular opportunities he would have.

Really? Grammars have amazing extra curricular

Wyvern is a good school I am sure, but there is no way it offers range of extra curricular that BWS offers. Especially if your son is sporty or musical.
