I'm going fully self employed as a maths tutor. How do you find a tutor? Are there any specific things you look for in a tutor?

Are you a qualified teacher? I think that's the most important thing.

Yes, I am. I have a PGCE from the University of Oxford so hopefully that will help.

Hi Theabingdonmathshub, I have been an online math tutor for the last 4 years full time teaching full time, (60 to 80 hours a week!) I have worked with a lot of different tutors, and I started on preply, I am now fully independent. I must say that having a PGCE will certainly help, and one from oxford is certainly a badge of honour. As far as becoming fully self employed, I have seen that the best online tutors have some real life business exp, as well as actual classroom exp. knowing how to manage people, will help you be self employed. If you don't have that experience (running a business) I recommend teaming up with one of the big online companies to get a head start. Good luck!!
