My dd did a test at school for which she score 29/60

the test was maths levels 6-8

the teacher wrote 7a on the test!

i think someone has got to be joking

that would mean level 8 was roughly 30-60

dd and i are arguing about this can anyone clarify please ?

Could it be her target rather than her mark?

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 21/01/2008 21:58

no! her target is 8

it is causing rows as she says that she is achieving enough and i say there is a lot of work to be done

a friend was round who got 21 and a 7!

Dh says probably a 7b but might be borderline. That would equate, as half marks would place her in the mid range of levels 6-8.

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 21/01/2008 22:03

but she scored half only and the test was only FOR levels 6-8???

i seeeeeeee

thankyou cat64- that looks possible - but i am still unsure..

seems a lot wrong to score so well

her school has shifted the sats to year 8 and just not sure they have covered the curriculum

Why the devil are they doing SATs in year 8?

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 21/01/2008 23:05

dont really know this is the first year

they said it was to concentrate on gcse work more...league tables but them in top 20 in uk for gcses so i am unsure where they are hoping to 'go'

The SATS papers are a ready made exam in maths so the school does not have to write their own for end of year and mid year tests, if the top groups do it early they do GSCE work in year 9 so they have time to cover maths and statistics for when they do GSCE in year 11. There are also the above level 8 (EP) projects to do in year 9 which DD enjoyed

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 22/01/2008 17:39

thnks for that dayoff

It's difficult to say exactly without knowing which paper, and from which year. But roungly, a level 8 in mathematics is around 65%+ of the 6-8 paper. Grade boundaries are not linear, but they are published (google 'grade boundaries').

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 22/01/2008 21:04

science teacher ok thanks i will do

i still think 65% sounds low for an 8 but then i am clueless
just have to work at a 15% increase!
