Eduqas Religious Education GCSE

My daughter was getting grade 8’s in her mocks for Religious Education. She said questions in the actual exam were similar to what she had practiced, so no surprises.

She has scored a grade 5, 5 marks off a grade 6. She would like all three papers to be reviewed but the examination officer has said it could also go down. She would need to lose 19 marks for it to go down to a grade 4.

My daughter really needs a 6 to do A levels at the college she has applied to.

Just wondering if anyone has any experience or advice.

Have you been given a breakdown of her marks in each paper?
Maybe start with having the lowest scoring one reviewed and see what happens, before moving into the next paper.

Ask for a breakdown. My dc got a 6 in mocks but 7 in exam with Equqas RE, so I don't think there is a general issue with the papers. She got 8 in English Lit mocks but 6 in exam, which is still great but we put it down to real exam nerves.

Five marks is a lot op; I would say it is very unlikely that the review will change the grade upwards. But if you have £40 per paper to spare then it’s also unlikely to go down do all you’ll lose is the cash.

It's not unheard of for a grade to change dramatically when a paper is reviewed. It doesn't happen very often, but it does happen.

If your DD feels like there's been a mistake then that's exactly the right situation to apply for a review. Commonly it's schools looking for that extra mark to push up to the next grade but the real purpose of the system is to pick up those egregious errors.

I have seen a 4 change to a 7 on a review. I don't want to get your hopes up unnecessarily but if a mistake has been made then this should sort it out.

Also if the grade changes you won't have to pay!

A review also just checks the paper has been marked in accordance with rules snd guidance. The paper isn’t actually remarked.
