What happens if we move during year 6?

DD is going on to year 6. We are applying for the local
comp (but we are on the border) so also a local independent school in case she doesn’t get in as the other local state isn’t great and also doesn’t have transport to it.

It’s quite likely that we might need to relocate this year for work (not far but a different council area) and I’m wondering what happens if we move mid way in year 6 regarding new secondary school options? I would ideally keep her at her primary now until the end of year 6 but could we apply to a different secondary if we knew we were moving but hadn’t yet relocated?! Or when the sale went through? The other area has one decent comp, very big and we’d be happy with it but would we be able to apply before we actually moved in? If not what would she / we need to do? Independent would also be an option in the new location but it’s not very nearby so would be a trek for her.

You can apply to any school you want. However, until you've actually moved house you'll need to use your current address. Which makes it fairly unlikely you'll get a place in a far off school unless it's undersubscribed.
I suspect you'll struggle to be moved before secondary school admissions are closed, so it will then depend on the timing of when you know you're moving - check the website of the area you're moving to for their procedure on late applications.

Yes as above. Some councils have a second deadline in early December, if you moved before then your application would be considered at the new address with no detriment. Check on your council's website. If you moved very close to the proposed school I would have thought you would have a good chance of a waiting list place over the summer.
