Preston Secondary Schools

We are relocating to Preston from London shortly and I am looking for a secondary school for DD who is about to start year 10. I have looked and Broughton High and Penwortham girls, both seem popular and over subscribed. Does anyone have an advice or information on secondary schools in Preston and surrounding areas ? DD is quite academic but not very sporty.
Thanks in advance!

How old is your daughter. I would thik you would need to.live in catchment area for both as they are well thought of schools locally but the areas opposite ends of Preston and Broughton is.more rural in parts. Neither have Sixth forms.which is standard in Lancashire with very good infact outstanding 6th form in preston City centre. No personal experience but multiple friends at Broughton happy with it.

My sister sent her girls to penwortham high and liked the school

I think it will be a case of ringing around and see where has a place tbh! It's a tough time to move in the middle of GCSEs.

Many schools start GCSE choices at year 9.

Penwortham is popular and good rep. Have you thought about Clitheroe Grammar? Lots bus in from a distance - there’s bus or train from Preston. They only start GCSE yr 10. Would be in year admission exam.

There are also the faith schools which are good such as Our Lady's and Archbishop temple. Lots of kids from Fulwood and Broughton area go to the single sex Lancaster Grammar schools which are also an option if she is academic.

Penwortham girls been good for years as is All Hallows if your are Catholic. In that area you have Hutton Grammar (not really grammar but sort of is!) for 6th form too, as well as colleges.

Broughton is good but north Preston is nowhere near as nice as South Ribble.

Croston (Archbishop Temple) possible? Really good school and a nice village.

Hutton is boys but mixed 6th form

I'm afraid you won't really have much choice in the matter- she'll have to just go where there's a vacancy, that serves the area you're moving to. All the good/excellent schools are well oversubscribed, but don't write off the RIs either. Be mindful how many years have passed since inspections and new heads being installed since too, those OFSTEDs can be meaningless. Penwortham and Broughton are geographically miiiiiiiles apart- whereabouts are you moving to? Very lucky to have free and excellent grammar schools here too.

Yes your postcode will dictate a lot; no South Ribble schools if you are north of the river. And then if school is oversubscribed you won't get a spot
