Thinking to join the school and wanted to know more about Ewell Castle School from parents and what their kids think of the school. Can't seem to find anything online.

I have two sons at the senior school. Lovely family feel, good at sports and also good provision for those who enjoy music and drama. My oldest son has a great group of friends and academically, it caters for all abilities. I'd summarise it as a happy and inclusive school.

Hi I'm worried there are nit enough girls at this school for it to be a good fit for my son and daughter who will be starting in year 9 and year 8 respectively. Anyone have any ideas on current numbers or ratio. Alternatively looking for a good independent Co Ed school in that area.

I lived in Stoneleigh for years and I never knew there was a castle in Ewell!

@SUSANA4100 it is very boy heavy. Have you looked at Claremont Fan Court, Kingston Grammar, The Hall School in Wimbledon?

Would you consider sending them single sex?

SUSANA4100 · 13/05/2023 09:06

Thanks Ive done alot of research with the schools and know all the ones you mentioned. I get the impression Kingston Grammar is a bit of a hothouse and prefer more of a more balanced less pressures approached. I have looked at Claremont but it's a bit far from where we want to be. I really like wimbeldon Hall but currently they don't have a sixth form. That's why I was going to settle on Ewel but may just visit all of them to make the decision.thanks !

@SUSANA4100 , places in both year 8 and 9 are very difficult to get at Kingston grammar, the 13plus year 9 places are via the 13plus entrance exam and a year 8 place is due to someone leaving. You need to spend time speaking to the admissions team.

The head of Ewell Castle was previously the deputy head of surbiton high and good but the boy girl ratio is an issue at the school. It's partly due to the abundance of girls private schools in the area.

Also do be aware of the large number of dc who leave their schools and go to options like Esher College for 6th form , may find a school with solid gcse teaching for your dc and put 6th forms to 1 side.

The Hall School is boys heavy as I looked at that. Staff seem really nice there and loved the Headmaster's ethos. Shame it didn't have more girls there.

We're thinking about Ewell Castle for our son, but wish there was a school bus as we're coming from Esher/Thames Ditton way. Any suggestions??
