If you had a current year 10 child who wants to study Medicine, where would you be looking at for sixth form in North London or Hertfordshire? She could stay at thr school she's at for sixth form, but wondering if there are other schools or sixth form colleges that guide them a bit better.

Are you near DAO?

@Thisismynewname123 just pop to the Higher Education section and there is plenty of support. Then can go anywhere !

Friend’s DD is at Wood house, they seem to have an excellent track record with getting kids into med school and she’s really enjoying the whole experience.

Yes, Woodhouse College in North Finchley seems to be preparing their pupils very well for all kinds of professions including Medicine.

I hadn't thought of DAO for sixth form. I'll look into that.
Woodhouse I'm aware of, and she's likely to apply to. I wondered if there was anywhere else worth considering.

Do check out DAO, they definitely take external students in the 6th form. We went to the 6th open day pre-covid but decided not to apply in the end as the journey would have been too long from where we live.

Woodhouse is a brilliant place. A great stepping stone between school and university and completely focussed on A levels (this was mentioned many times at open day - the staff don't have younger groups to consider). The place has a totally different vibe to a school 6th form. There is lots of support for university application and careers advice.
What struck me was the fact that on open days there were so many students who had come in voluntarily to show us round. They were so proud to be there and happy to chat.
2 of my DC went to DAO and it was ok, but really, no comparison.

That’s interesting @basedinlondon . I expect Woodhouse also probably too far for us to travel but will check it out.

This is interesting they have two main feeder schools but take kids from 180 other schools. Part of the entrance criteria is journey time to school for 9am so I don’t know how strict they are about journey times. I wonder if there’s as much of a social life at Woodhouse if everyone is travelling from far and wide to go there? But apart from that, I can totally see the appeal of a sixth form College over a school sixth form. www.woodhouse.ac.uk/applications-year-12-entry-criteria-868-mi.aspx
