School Prize Day

It’s that awkward time of school prize days where the elite top performers get formal recognition but what about the rest who work very hard all year but never quite make the elite list. It can be quite damaging on a child who works very hard but never gets recognition.

Always happens every year - same kids - same prizes. No one else gets a look in….

Most schools have a mixture of prizes for acad etc achievement, effort, contribution to school, form prizes.

It is the day clever kids may get formal recognition the same way sporty kids have sports day and actors/musicians have productions.

There is no need to have a participation medal for everyone in everything.

Yes my dd is going to hers tonight - 6-9pm.
It is inevitable that if you got the top science prize one year you are still top of the class and will get it again, and it seems those bright kids are also good at sport and music and get those too! After 12 years of school my bright (8 & 9s at GCSE) and talented daughter has never won anything, not even those non specific 'teachers choice' type ones.
