Thought it timely that the thread title is “Two more weeks of exams” and amazingly we are now have only just over two more weeks to wait for results…..16 days!!

Haven’t heard anything further about the AQA examiner strikes and potential delays in results? Don’t think I could stomach that.

Have heard about final year Uni students (Birmingham I think) who will not get their degree results until September when they should have had them in June due to strikes.

Notagardener · 09/08/2022 08:59

6th form here also sent some work to be done. 1st part deadline late July, 2nd early Aug, 3rd part late Aug. I don't think DC has submitted any...

Fizbosshoes · 09/08/2022 09:09

school have set loads of holiday homework fir 6th form, but they weren't very clear about it.one of DDs friends parents found it on the school website but I've no idea how they came across it! Then school sent an email (last week of july) with instructions how to find it, but one of DDs friends only found out about it this week when she told her.

salsamummy · 09/08/2022 10:29

Da assures me that no work has been set.🤔

NameInUseAlreadyAgain · 09/08/2022 13:18

Ds applied for his sixth form but isn’t going but they don’t know that yet. No work set

he’s got his college enrolment Email today! Starts 7 sep. Provided he gets his results of course…!

LouisCatorze · 10/08/2022 08:28

DD is getting very 'jumpy' about her results now clearly regretting not having worked harder for some of them. Think it's the triple science ones she's most worried about. She thinks she's done best in physics and worst in biology.

She also seems to be having second thoughts about sixth form of school vs sixth form college (again).

She's been bored this past week or so. Her tutoring has been on pause over the hols which she's a bit miffed about as she wasn't given any warning, and could have got a short-term job to make up for the loss of income.

I suggested she at least start on her geography (the only 100% certain A Level choice currently) homework but no, she's going to cram it all in to that last week of the school hols.

MyOtherProfile · 10/08/2022 09:47

but no, she's going to cram it all in to that last week of the school hols.
Same here. 15 hours, 5 per subject, of holiday work and he's going to do it in the last week. And then moan that he can't go out all the time.

LouisCatorze · 10/08/2022 10:02

@MyOtherProfile, yep, and when they will be wanting to make the most of their last week of being carefree before the hard work starts (again).

QueenMabby · 10/08/2022 21:58

DS is just over halfway through his 20 page maths booklet that is his bridging work. He does a bit every morning but it's taking ages. Some pages have over 50 questions on them!

Otherwise it's mostly PlayStation time although he did go out with friends yesterday for a few hours. I've suggested he get a job but nothing doing.

We do not mention the Day that must not be named. He's very nervous. Not sure why - he should be ok.

CornishGem1975 · 11/08/2022 08:25

Hi all.

My DD has been cracking on with her pre-learning, I think she's almost there with it but she's been a bit bored so that's probably why!

Womblesaremyfavouritefood · 11/08/2022 14:16

Have a look in M and S - got a decent plain black jacket there yesterday which was deemed 'inoffensive' by DC!

Womblesaremyfavouritefood · 11/08/2022 14:19

... and DC is supposed to be reading books for Physics, but has downloaded the audio books so they don't need to focus on them apparently. Ho hum!

LouisCatorze · 11/08/2022 14:24

Thanks for the tip @Womblesaremyfavouritefood .

PugInTheHouse · 11/08/2022 15:26

I had no idea that colleges asked for work to be completed before they start, I can imagine that's not easy to get them motivated for when they want to be out with their friends. DS has to complete a form saying about his inspirations etc for music for his course but it's not marked, it's to give them some further info about the kids.

Can't believe it's only 2 weeks to go,we have a busy results day, he has his college registration meeting in the afternoon then straight off to watch the 100 cricket afterwards.

Rollergirl11 · 11/08/2022 16:11

Hey everyone, greetings from Turkey. One week down and one left to go. It’s super hot here but I understand the UK is having its second heatwave. Hope you are all bearing up!

DD got the Waitrose job (woo hoo!) and has her induction day the day after we get back from holiday next Saturday. She will get one more shift in before results day and then heading off for Reading.

@legosnowqueen i was quite apprehensive about Reading I’m not going to lie. But now that DD is one festival down she feels like she’s a dab hand at it now. She was pretty good at keeping in touch at the last one with a couple of phone calls per day to check in so we knew she was doing okay. And, in her words, she’s now a pro at smuggling alcohol in to the arena! 🤦‍♀️And putting the tent up and down.

Can't believe it’s only 2 weeks till results day. DD is starting to feel apprehensive although I think she will have done fine. She doesn’t have any self belief and never thinks she’s done well and is always proved wrong.

Hey @Rollergirl11 hope you're having a lovely holiday. I'm trying to work out how to transfer DS's ticket for Leeds from my Ticketmaster account, thought he could just log into mine but the e ticket will have my name on. Have you looked at this? Any tips appreciated Smile

That's great news about Waitrose. Ironically DS's cafe job is in jeopardy as they have told him another colleague has booked the Saturday of Leeds Fest as holiday so he may not be able to. He says that in that case he will take it as unpaid leave but we think he's missing the point, that they need him to work. With the cost of the ticket he's not going to miss the festival so I fear the worst.

What are other parents doing about going with DCs to collect results? School have said only the students themselves can come into school, they have set it up so that students collect their results then go through to another room to 'confirm' their post 16 options if they are staying on. We live very close to the school but DS has surprised me by asking me to come with him & wait outside while he does this, I'm guessing he's feeling nervous too as results day gets closer..

Womblesaremyfavouritefood · 11/08/2022 16:58

We're getting the results by email. DC has anxiety and that, coupled with the fact that none of their friends will be there (they are either working or on holiday) swung the decision for them. I think we might go into school later that morning if the results are OK. There will be a lot there though that will get all 9s which is rather daunting. I just want them to have got enough to get back into 6th form .....

PugInTheHouse · 11/08/2022 17:30

@Womblesaremyfavouritefood Are all results available by email or is it a specific request?

Womblesaremyfavouritefood · 11/08/2022 17:56

We were asked by the school after the exams how we wanted to get the results. They really want everyone to come in to get them, but actually a lot won't be doing that. I think we get THE email at 9.15 am.

PugInTheHouse · 11/08/2022 18:08

Ah OK, I'm not sure we have that option then. I expect DS will want to go in, I think most people will but not sure. I always find the whole thing of going in for results odd, all great if you are expecting great grades, not if you're not.

LouisCatorze · 11/08/2022 19:26

DD certainly didn't get the email option, much as it would have been the preferred choice really. Options were: go in and collect in person; nominate a friend to get them on her behalf; or have them posted which with the upcoming BH weekend could potentially mean not receiving them for nearly a week!

Yes, being there to celebrate is great if you've got stellar results, much less so if they're not (and the young person is disappointed and/or upset).

DFOD · 11/08/2022 19:44

There were rumours the the results will be worse than the last two years but better than 2019 … and this seems to have been the outcome in Scotland this week … do we think this will have any material difference to individuals - I am thinking about my DDS schools last predictions after the Easter holidays when they did revision prep which were much more impressive than we thought - hope this isn’t radically down graded - but if they drop for all then it’s all relative to the cohort (I am aware I have now entered the anxious over thinking zone - and that will just spiral over the next two weeks)

PugInTheHouse · 11/08/2022 19:49

I think it was always going to be the case that they would be worse than last year, no exams for them at all, my niece was going to struggle to get 4s and got 7/8/9 across the board last year. Something had to be done but it does feel like they got a raw deal this year!

TeenDivided · 11/08/2022 19:53

It's not rumours. They are going to be 'pegged' to half way between the 2019 results and the 2021. Teachers know this and should have taken it into account when making predictions. Actually if they have any sense they would have predicted based on 2019 levels.

The problem with last year was some schools massively over graded, but others didn't and were cautious/responsible/miserable. Also they reasonably graded on 'having a good day' whereas in reality X% of pupils will have bad days.

(I'm gatecrashing here as we are awaiting Eng Lang 'resit').

PugInTheHouse · 11/08/2022 19:59

According to DS their mock results were based on 2019 grade boundaries however he said the actual exams in most instances were a lot harder than the mocks, this is reflected on the comments about the papers after the exams so who knows what actually will happen.
