Anyone else hacked off with them given the disruption our kids have faced. First you had the ridiculously challenging question on Paper 1 GCSE Maths. Yes it should be hard but that seemed excessively so.
Than today it would appear a topic came up on paper 1 A Level that was on the advance info for paper 2. Ds accepts it was a grey area but is now super cross he left that topic out for now.

What was the topic area?
I've not heard this from my students and the advanced information topic list was rather broad.

Will check with ds

The parametric equation part of the last question @woodlands01

I believe the last question was to do with parametric integration (I have not seen the paper yet) which was not specifically defined in the advanced information for paper 1. However methods of integration was so I expect it was included in this.

Paremetrics is only included in the advanced information for paper 2 and this is specifically differentiation.

The issue with advanced information is that it can be taken too literally - students see the word 'parametric' in paper 2 and ignore for paper 1.

Yep sadly that is what he did. He is disappointed but I am sure he will be fine.

Edexcel GCSE paper was leaked the night before.

BotCrossHuns · 10/06/2022 07:44

the GCSE paper? how bad a leak? I haven't seen anyting in the media about that yet. I wonder if it would affect grade boundaries if it's a big leak.

I thought the last question was good, and fair. It wasn't impossible at all given what they'd been taught, and just needed a good dose of problem solving, thinking about how to use various topics etc, which is characteristic of a grade 9 student. Hard, absolutely, but that's what you need at the end of the paper to differentiate the really top students from the others.

@BotCrossHuns unfortunately my dd missed most of year 9 and had no more thsn an hour a weeks tuition in year 10 and 11 so was totally out of her depth despite previously being a top of top set type student.
I heard about leak too but not much detail.
