Waitlist Grammar School

My DD is on the waitlist for a grammar school. We were given her ranking initially, and I recently checked her waitlist position and her waitlist position has moved backwards. Does this mean a higher ranked candidate has now only decided to accept the place?

They could have asked to go on the waiting list, or perhaps they have moved into the area and passed a late test/qualified in another area.

Is it a super-selective grammar where the actual score on the test might make a difference? Or one where everyone who scored over a certain pass mark could apply for entry?

It’s a super selective grammar.

Ah, we have super-selective grammars here so it is likely to be someone with a higher test score who has opted for some reason to go on the waiting list then, unless there is any other criteria that may have moved them up the list (pupil premium if that is one of the school's criteria?)

How frustrating for you, I hope it all works out OP.
