@Rollergirl11 that is unbearably sad especially for their family and friends.

The school have had some really sad news. 4 of the Year 13’s were involved in a car accident on Tuesday night and sadly one of the students didn’t survive. Lots of people are absolutely devastated and what with A-level exams just about to start next week the impact is immense. 🥺😢

That's utterly horrendous. How dreadful for everyone. The poor children (and families and school).

Nard75 · 19/05/2022 07:41

@Rollergirl11 that is such devastating news for the family and friends as well as all the school community. It doesn't bear thinking of what they must all be going through.

IThinkIMadeItWorse · 19/05/2022 07:51

@Rollergirl11 how awful. Terribly sad. My heart goes out to everyone affected.

LouisCatorze · 19/05/2022 07:53

Oh no @Rollergirl11 that's really tragic. So very sad. How on earth does the school mitigate for that? It sounds as if the whole year group are going to need support and special consideration for their exams.

DD thought the Steinbeck passage was lacking, the holiday let photo bizarre and opted for the 'sentence to stimulate a story' option. She has been working at a solid 7 level in English Language for a while now, so hoping that she's been able to pull what's required out of the bag to at least maintain that level.

Woke up with a start this morning thinking I'd overslept but then remembered that DD doesn't have an exam to do today. Yay! Not sure how much maths she'll do today.

I am finding myself beginning to get involved in revision, if only as a way to motivate DD to do it. We both did the same geography paper 1 yesterday evening which was amusing. Despite not having studied the subject for decades, I was pretty impressed at how far watching natural world documentaries on TV got me.

Oh that is so awful. Poor parents and children. My DS is in year 13 and drives often with friends in the car

MirandaWest · 19/05/2022 07:55

And it’s likely to affect some year 11s too - quite possible some of them affected could have siblings in year 11 as well as it affecting all the school generally 😢

StColumbofNavron · 19/05/2022 08:17

Oh @Rollergirl11 I just feel absolutely sick reading that. Prayers and thoughts.

So sad when something like that happens, it ricochets through the school. Earlier this year a girl in my DS's class died tragically, it was a huge shock for everyone.

CornishGem1975 · 19/05/2022 08:26

Re the English exam - how many variations of exam boards and images where there? I've heard about 3-4 totally different ones so far?

The most poular board for English seems to be AQA.
But there are also Edexcel, OCR and WJEC.

CornishGem1975 · 19/05/2022 09:21

Ah we are EDEXL. I was wondering why everyone was talking about a different picture to the one we had!

StColumbofNavron · 19/05/2022 09:48

Our school has gone for different boards for Lang and Lit so we have AQA and OCR.

DS1 left before I even got up today, we are only 15' away.

@Rollergirl11 so sorry to hear that news - it must be devastating for everyone. Thoughts & prayers are with you all.

aramox1 · 19/05/2022 12:49

Oh how terrible @Rollergirl11 I'm so sorry to hear that. What a shock for the school

poshme · 19/05/2022 13:00

@Rollergirl11 there's been quite a few people angry on Twitter about the advanced info for AQA biology- because they'd been looking at separate sciences instead of combined.
Worth checking that you're looking at the right advanced info before Chen/phys & the next biology.

PaddingtonPaddington · 19/05/2022 14:24

Echoing others @Rollergirl11 just awful.

DS had OCR History (Elizabethans) this morning and said it went well. So that’s 4 done with 20 to go. Maths and Business tomorrow. DS plodding on with revision this afternoon.

StColumbofNavron · 19/05/2022 17:23

DS1 said history was 'fine' but he did elaborate a little that one of 8 mark questions people had vastly differing answers to from very different perspectives - in a degree that would probably be a good thing, but I think GCSE are looking for slightly more well boxed, evidenced answers. Two more papers to go.

Drama on the other hand, he said was a walk in the park and he had 30 mins left. Either he really just 'got it' or he has made a terrible error.

Thanks for everyone’s thoughts and prayers. The school are coming to terms with the news and the pastoral team are on hand to provide support to anyone that needs it. Just so sad that a life has been cut short so young.

DD did History this morning. She said it was harder than she was expecting and she literally finished just in time. She didn’t get a chance to go back and check her answers.

Maths tomorrow and then first week down. I think she will be glad for a bit of a recharge over half term next week.

Rollergirl11 · 19/05/2022 17:45

*at the end of next week

StColumbofNavron · 19/05/2022 17:58

DS1 has maths and business tomorrow. He has hated business all the way through, it was a back up option and he says the answer is almost always 'and that is how you make a profit'. It is very straightforward though so I don't expect him to be surprised.

DD2 had History (crime & punishment) today & said one question was on prison in the C20 whereas she had been taught about it for the C19 industrial period so had to wing it a bit. C&P was always her least favourite & weakest topic so she's not too bothered. Drama was apparently quite easy.

Womblesaremyfavouritefood · 19/05/2022 18:47

... not looking forward to maths tomorrow ...

Silkierabbit · 19/05/2022 18:55

So sorry to hear the car crash news Rollergirl

DD had history today which she said was meh so she said I may only get an 8 but am expecting a 9 and when she went through it sounded fine. Then orthodontist also fine and an interview for a summer job which gets back to her tomorrow. I have been kitten sitting all day and he has been non stop leaping around, purring, chasing his tail, doing back flips, climbing up curtains and now eating DDs revision cards but at least its maths tomorrow which is her strongest subject. Then nothing until Tuesday.

I also had oncologist meeting to discuss chemo, 6 more weeklies to do, 6 done and now reducing steroids as they make me anxious and meeting with Head of statutory assessment for DS.

DD is staying out all day tomorrow so I will have a long day of kitten sitting, lovely but I want to sleep. At least 6 down now / 21 to go.

TonyBlairsLover · 19/05/2022 19:20

Hi everyone.
I’m in year 13 and tomorrow is my 4th time resitting gcse maths Blush.
I’ve revised lots and my teacher thinks I can get a grade 5. Does anyone have any advice on not worrying that I’ll forget everything?
kind regards
