Jumping in with a y12 resitting English. She said it was one of the hardest texts she has seen, but she did at least attempt all the questions. She has been very unwell for 2 years, and finished early which is not really a good sign at all as it means her answers will be too short to get many marks.

Stormchaser1502 · 18/05/2022 14:31

Dd thought English was ok today. She’s now panicking about maths on Friday

PaddingtonPaddington · 18/05/2022 14:51

DS said the English was ok, the first question he thought was badly worded and it threw him a bit and he didn’t like the picture for question 5 so went for the other option. He’s glad it’s done. 3 down and 21 to go. History tomorrow.

@TeenPlusCat Definitely a positive your DD had all questions answered. Fingers crossed for her.

TeenPlusCat · 18/05/2022 15:02

Thanks @PaddingtonPaddington . We SO don't want another year of English! We deferred her maths as she wouldn't have stamina for English & maths exams in same week, so that still has to be done sometime too.

Rollergirl11 · 18/05/2022 16:12

DD just sent me the picture for Q5 in the Lang paper. It’s like the stuff of nightmares! That AQA writer needs to go and lie down in a dark room. 😬🤪

StColumbofNavron · 18/05/2022 16:12

DS1 said it was 'fine'. He said he didn't do the picture, which initially panicked me but seeing what everyone else is saying, there was an alternative.

We also have history and drama tomorrow. He has war in East Asia which I think he is confident about. He has a 9 from the other parts of drama so I think he is feeling a little pressure to make sure he aces the exam now.

DD had English Language which was fine she said (not AQA!), and Economics which she found difficult but she picked economics up a year late and so missed the first year and it was on first year but at least 2 more down so 5 down, 22 to go. She has just taken back Mr Floof, which is great, he is lovely but a ball of energy and being on chemo my energy cannot keep up with him. They are now leaping around the house together playing kitten games.

Silkierabbit · 18/05/2022 16:21

History tomorrow and orthodontist and Maths on Friday. Then a break until French on Tuesday and another 4 that week, and then half term, phew.

CornishGem1975 · 18/05/2022 16:23

DD didn't think English went well. She thinks she gave a bad answer. I've told her to move on, no point fretting.

CornishGem1975 · 18/05/2022 16:24

Also to add she thought it was a good text extract, she just thinks she answered it badly.

daffodilandtulip · 18/05/2022 16:44

Did anyone do German? DD thinks it was horrendous and is lucky to have scraped through with a grade. She thinks she did well in English, and that's not her strong subject.

Mcmumager · 18/05/2022 17:05

Had a video message from ds saying German was the worst thing ever. Think listening wasn’t we bad as the reading. He said he wasn’t sure all the words were even German lol. Hoping writing is better but I know it’s the subject he’ll be happy to give up

Lightsabre · 18/05/2022 17:10

Yes @daffodilandtulip! Ds also said it was a really difficult text and he didn't know some of the words/questions. Maybe, if everyone found it difficult, the grade boundaries will be lower?

Ds English was two passages comparison and a letter (OCR exam board). I was glad he actually managed to write a fair bit as he normally doesn't write enough. His hand writing is generally awful so I hope it was legible enough. I don't envy the English markers.

daffodilandtulip · 18/05/2022 17:21

Hopefully if everyone found it difficult the boundaries will be lower then. She said at least she didn't write in English by mistake like some of her class 😬

NameInUseAlreadyAgain · 18/05/2022 18:07

DS said the text was awful for English this morning

he too opted for the second option for the written essay

Nard75 · 18/05/2022 18:08

DS2 had English language and German today. He seemed to think English was difficult said he didn't know what the picture was. He was more positive about German. We will wait and see. He has nothing tomorrow and then maths on Friday.

Same here. Tomorrow is maths revision but as I’m at work not sure how much will be done !! Oh well it’s in his hands !

Watapalava · 18/05/2022 18:23

Ds thought german was really hard. Harder than any mock etc they’ve done

Eng language was ok

MirandaWest · 18/05/2022 20:31

DD said English language was fine - she didn’t do the picture one and showed me it earlier on. I agree it was odd.

She has history and drama tomorrow as well - Cold War for her in history.

Then Maths on Friday. She’s been enjoying doing maths practice papers recently which has surprised her 😂

PeekAtYou · 18/05/2022 21:28

The picture came up on my TiktTok earlier. It's an actual holiday home available to rent

daffodilandtulip · 18/05/2022 21:46

Agreed with DD that we're "being ill" for school tomorrow 🙊 as she has no exams and wants to revise for maths, as this is what she wants to do at uni.

Rollergirl11 · 18/05/2022 22:04

Yes it’s a Mexican villa from a holiday lettings site. DD said it still had the website logo water mark on the picture. Totally random.

DD is doing medicine through time in History tomorrow.

legosnowqueen · 18/05/2022 22:38

It's really interesting seeing other DC's thoughts. DS thought Eng Lang went well. He didn't do the picture option. He has History tomorrow, then Maths & Business on Friday - a really full week & these last 3 are subjects he hopes to do at A level so we are rooting for him to do well.

He has revised in school yesterday & today (optional & unstructured, all in a hall but there have been staff on hand to ask questions). They've been allowed to leave the school premises for lunch, usually only sixth form can do that, so I think they've felt grown up 😀 but he said that it was very hot in the hall today so will probably revise at home after the History exam tomorrow...guess the novelty has worn off.

Rollergirl11 · 19/05/2022 06:54

The school have had some really sad news. 4 of the Year 13’s were involved in a car accident on Tuesday night and sadly one of the students didn’t survive. Lots of people are absolutely devastated and what with A-level exams just about to start next week the impact is immense. 🥺😢

QueenMabby · 19/05/2022 07:30

Oh @Rollergirl11 that's absolutely awful. How terribly sad. Poor poor children. It does put it all in perspective doesn't it?
