Private schools near Salisbury?

Any recommendations for private schools in and around Salisbury? Would travel half an hour... which might not be great! But maybe more for the right school.

Son is currently at a private school in Southampton but looking to possibly relocate. He is currently in year 5; so looking at prep and senior.

Thank you!

Hi Smile

Approximately half an hours drive:
-Leehurst Swan in Salisbury (all through school)
-Rookwood School in Andover (all through school)
-Daunsey’s in West Lavington (seniors & sixth form)
-Embley in Romsey (all through)
-Warminster School (all through)

There’s also Salisbury Cathedral School and Chafyn Grove that go up to 13.

I’ve heard mixed reviews regarding Leehurst Swan and know a few families who moved their children from the prep into state primary. There’s been very positive reviews about Dauntsey’s. Also Rookwood School has sounded positive but it is fairly small. Embley looks lovely too. Dauntsey’s probably has the highest results out of those options but is more selective. All are way above state average in the area apart from Bishop Wordsworth state grammar.

Rookwood is tiny - when I looked it was so small they could barely field a sports team. Embley sells itself as having a nurturing environment, not academically demanding but has good “alternative” sports I think as well as team games. Salisbury also has grammars I think - bishops? Dauntsey’s - I know one family who had 3 boys who all went here and they thought that even though all boys were different it was a good school for all of them. Also you have Marlborough College down that way. Good luck!

Marlborough would be head and shoulders above the rest.

Bryanston has a good reputation.

Bishop Wordsworths is very good if you want to go state funded and can get in.

Chafyn and the Cathedral School are the obvious suggestions at his age within Salisbury itself. Probably the best prep within 30 mins travel or so would be Sandroyd- you could probably also consider Farleigh. Once your DS is settled in prep they can advise about senior schools that would suit him. Don’t discount Bishop Wordsworth, the boys’ grammar. It’s an excellent school and chosen by many who could afford fees, although the leading preps will be working on 13+ rather than 11+ transitions..
I wouldn’t bother with Rookwood, and I can’t see why anyone would travel from Salisbury into Andover

@squishyegg I wondered if you had made a decision and whether you’d found out any key info?! I’m looking for DD for possible relocation to Salisbury or the New Forest next year.
