What are the schools like in Reading - both primary and secondary? We're moving to the area with two children (aged 5 and 10) and know nothing about the area. Any advice? Thanks!

Heide - are you moving into Reading Borough or into Newbury District (e.g. Tilehurst) or Wokingham District - on the whole the schools outside Reading Borough are better.

We were hoping to move to the university area of Reading (near to where the new job is) but I gather schools might be a problem in this area.

Maiden Erleigh (secondary) is very sought after, and catchment area is close to University (in Earley). Primary schools are a bit tough though - you need to avoid the Witley area, which is also close to the Uni (no disrespect just being honest, I lived there for years, before children).

Caversham has excellent primary schools (North Reading) and the secondary (Highdown) is not bad - well equipped, etc. Quite expensive housing accordingly, with a white, middle class, village atmosphere.

I'm very happy to help with any further questions.

For secondary there are also the two grammars: Reading School (boys) and Kendrick (girls). Places in these are highly sought after and pupils travel very long distances. Maiden Erleigh has always been the best comprehensive school in the south/south east Reading area and I would expect you would need to live within the catchment area to get a place.

Need information on the schools in Reading? I am moving to reading and looking for information on primary and secondary schools? Does any school offer both primary and secondary on the same campus?
My workplace is close to Theale and so what is a best and good area to live. Looking for a safe neighbourhood area as this is our first time coming to the UK. Thanks in advance.
