English Lit help for GCSE?

My DS has just got his final predicted grades in anticipation for GCSE's this summer. They are all very good, but he needs a bit of support for his English Literature final exam as this grade has backtracked a bit. I can't afford a tutor.

He is telling me that he "doesn't get it".

I am not sure of the governing body, but can find out. His texts are Journey's End, 1984 and poems of Carol Ann Duffy. The feedback I have received for example, is that he needs to "revise the Duffy poetry thoroughly to prevent misunderstandings in his writing".

Sorry if this is a very broad question and it is a bit vague. I feel a bit lost as to how help him bring this grade back up. I am not a teacher!

Any suggestions?

Ask his teacher. Let them you want to sit with him and help with revise but you are not sure where to start and can they recommend some revision guides.

Unusual texts OP - is this iGCSE?

No Shakespeare or 19th-century novel?

There are a lot of resources around online tho perhaps not so many for those texts, more for R&J or Christmas Carol or Inspector Calls...

Will the school let you have his mock papers and talk about where he dropped marks? Past papers online may be helpful as they have mark schemes and examiners' reports which show what they are looking for.
