Hello all,

I live in Wycombe and my address is in the catchment of both Beaconsfield High School and Wycombe High School. My DD preparing for her 11+ and is very interested in going to one of the grammar schools. I am trying to understand how to compare the 2 schools and how to make a wise choice among the 2 in a way that her secondary school will provide a positive and nurturing environment in her teen years. Distance wise, Wycombe High is slightly closer than Beaconsfield High but we will have to drive for both the schools. Any input welcome. Thank you.

Lets assume they are both good academically.

So otherwise what is important?

  • pastoral care, mental health support
  • attitude towards gender identity
  • ethos (pushy, relaxed, ...)
  • extra curricular opportunities
  • time to travel
  • subjects offered at GCSE
  • size

You can look at Ofsted, School website, visit on an open day, talk to existing parents (there will be some at your current primary surely)
