Secondary Schools in Warwickshire

Hi Mumsnetters
I'm looking for some local knowledge of Warwickshire Secondary Schools. We're moving to Stratford-Upon-Avon in a few months and my daughter will be starting Year 9 in September. Information on the gov.uk website is useful but some on-the-ground info would be really invaluable. My daughter is fairly outgoing, enjoys drama and most of her high school subjects - essentially a typical 12 year old! We're looking at Stratford High but also schools in the wider area potentially. Any advice / local experience would be really appreciated. Many thanks!

State or private? Stratford has Girls Grammar school, but space and waiting lists may be a factor. Year 9 entry doesnt give you a free choice, all dependent on space. Independents outside of town may be an option if space available. They may be more flecible with classes moving into Year 9.

Henley in Arden might also be a choice to look out - on the outskirts. There is a Grammar system as indicated above so Stratford Girls or even Alcester not sure on gaining entry at the older stage though. We are in Hatton outside Warwick/Stratford and had the choice of Stratford based schooling or Warwick with access to both via buses. We were catchment for Henley but chose Aylesford in Warwick which because it was closer (even though not catchment!!) a bus was available for us.

There is alot of choice and in my view not alot to choose between the state schools, very much depends on your child. Results are OK from most but if v bright then consider the Grammars if available.

@Changemyname18 @RB68

Thank you so much for your replies!

We are looking at state schools rather than private. Grammar schools possibly but I have already contacted Stratford Girls Grammar and there are no spaces for Year 9. We are currently looking at Stratford High - the upside is its walkable but the downside is they choose their GCSE subjects in Year 8 so my daughter may miss out on some subjects she is interested in - this is the main reason we are also looking elsewhere. I've heard good things about Myton School but from talking to the LEA that is also full!

It might actually be the case that we are given a school where there is space rather than being able to choose one....
