Waiting lists

DS wasn't offered place at first choice so we appealed and opted to be put on waiting list, for 1st choice and another school.
After reading some threads on here, I'm wondering whether the council were supposed to let us know what position we are in on the list?
I haven't heard back with regards to waiting list, only had paperwork from allocated school asking if we wanted to accept or decline place offered.

Think you can call relevant schools and ask them where on the list you are or call the council. I doubt they would inform you as position can change so quick

The only update you will get is if she gets a place.
DS1 was on the waiting list all the way to Sept, and was 1 on the waiting list on first day of term.
He started at our second choice school (which he was dreading) and loved it, and asked to come off the list.
I only knew where he was on the list as I phoned the council once a month. Be aware you can move up or down the waiting list (new people closer to the school etc).

Our local authority isn't telling anyone their waiting list positions until after March 30th, by which time the second round of offers will have gone out. School admissions officers have been asked to do the same. Makes sense, because waiting list positions can change significantly between the first and second round, for better or worse.

Thank you all for the replies, @nosiparka that makes sense.

Hi, I also had my DD on the waiting list for several schools, I tried to phone a few times to ask what number she was on the waiting list but the lines were always busy (assuming most people were doing the same thing) I emailed and they said they would be in a position to advise of waiting list places first week in April. We got an email last week 25th March to adv she had been given a place at her first choice. Sooner than expected. Fingers crossed for you and good luck x

@Yellow212 so glad to hear it's worked for you Smile
I will definitely give them a call next week, and see what they say.

We were automatically put on the wait list for our higher choices. We can log on to essex admissions and tells us what place we are.
So far haven’t seen any moment, which I find a bit strange….🤞
