Kingsdale AA1 form and Appeals!!! Help

Hi everyone another kingsdale thread but I really need some advice.

My child didn’t get any of our choices and was allocated a school in Tulse Hill. I’m located at Gipsy Hill Train station.

Waiting list position on offer day was 327!

I have submitted a AA1 form to kingsdale on med/social grounds.
This is my situation- Last year my older child was a victim of a machete attack outside Harris Beulah Hill at 3.30pm in front of his sister, school teachers and other pupils. This was a lead on from him being robbed in a chicken shop in Sydenham- by local gang members. My child suffered injuries however none that was life threatening thank god!

I had police alarms put into my home - there is fear of reprisals and they have located where we live. I am currently a Lambeth tenant and am awaiting a emergency move due to what happened. My son can not live with me until we are rehoused.

Now my child who didn’t get a local school place has suffered severe anxiety and trauma related issues since this incident. My child cannot travel far from my home due to risk associated with incident. Kingsdale school is a 3 min drive/ 7 min walk .
Norwood school has links to the offenders .

I have police letters saying my family are at risk and a DR letter stating my child can’t travel far to school alone as she has bad anxiety and trauma issues.

I have a disabled child also , who attends school locally , who I drop and collect . I would be unable to drop both children.

Please any advice would be great. I’m out of my depth here and I have refused the allocated school as the risk to my child is to increased.

I am sorry that this happened to your family.

Of course, a lot will depend on how strong the school’s case is not to admit, but it sounds like you have a strong case to put to the appeal panel. The letter from the police will be very helpful. It sounds as if the doctor’s letter says your child needs to be at a school close to home, but does it actually name your preferred school? That will be more helpful than a general statement about avoiding travel.

Unless you’re in a position to home educate from September, you need to make a contingency plan in case you do not win the appeal. As you’ve refused the offered place, the LEA isn’t obliged to make you a second offer. Are there any other schools you’d be willing to accept? If so, join waiting lists.

Hi
Thank for your response.
Yea the Dr letter is generalised and doesn’t mention Kingsdale. I only really have 2 schools close and that is Kingsdale and Norwood school. Hopefully the police letter shows the risks involved with my family.

I haven’t appealed yet- Kingsdale asked me to submit a AA1 for which re looks at the application- under med/social need as when I first applied I stupidly didn’t give the evidence as was so stressed at time and just applied.

What will the AA1 form do? If the school are satisfied with the evidence, will it give you a place or move you up the waiting list? (Waiting lists are held in the same order as the oversubscription criteria, so if there’s a category for social/medical need that will place you above everyone in the distance category).

Hi. It will bump me up the waiting list. However, kingsdale do not have a catchment area. So distance makes no difference.
If I’m not a good number on waiting list I will be heading to appeal.
