Kings Wimbledon vs Hampton

Last minute wait list offer from Kings for year 9 entry. Currently due to go to Hampton. Pretty equal travel wise on school bus although kings nearer in km. Both seem to be excellent schools. Kings maybe more modern music and sports facilities with new concert hall and sports centre? Likely to do A levels so IB not important for us. Had mentally happily gone into Hampton mode: chosen options etc. but 2 years ago Kings was top of list. Now struggling to decide. DS no clear preference either. Are there boys at Kings that are a bit cheeky / like a joke / enjoy getting involved in all music sport clubs etc. who tend to rush their work a bit currently? I have an impression that Hampton is more likely to have those sort of boys but it’s an impression based on really no facts!! I would love to hear from parents of boys at either school. I know that ultimately neither will be the wrong choice but it’s still hard to make the choice!

Can your DS get to either on public transport? That would be a deciding factor for me. I think your impression that Hampton is more likely to have the sort of boys you describe is accurate!

Yes public transport option would be decider for me.

Going on school bus until 18 . Lovely to have some independence at sixth form or earlier.

Hampton is supposed to be more nuturing from what I understand. Kings more hardcore and suits a certain type. But I'm sure others know more than me. I've heard DC's headmaster advises gentler boys to go to Hampton, the more assertive pushy confident ones to Kings.

My DS is at King’s and definitely rushes his work! Feel free to DM me any specific questions. We didn’t look at Hampton though so can’t help compare the two.

my DS went to Kings. Not as diligent as as some of his friends. Got into sport and drama instead - quite an all rounder. Was good for him. Not much to compare it to though :-)

do you mind me asking you a few questions about Kings? Looking for 13+ to start in 2026 but not sure if there’s more to the cost then Tution fee and bus?? Will just about be able to afford the fee through our nose, can’t be caught by any nasty surprises later!
