School shoes/bags/coats

Eldest about to go up to secondary school. At my secondary school the most important thing and measure of how cool you were/how much you got bullied was the shoes you were wearing, the coat and bag you had. It was your status symbol as it was the only thing you could vary.

When I was at school, if you wore Kickers in Y7 you were revered, in Y8 it was Ellesse. It's what the cool kids had.

The fun and games with shoes might not be a thing as I think the school is quite strict on this. But are there any 'cool' shoes/bags/coats these days until my son can learn for himself what these are? I cant imagine things have changed since I was at school - this was what mattered socailly and Id like to ease his transition as much as I can.

Can anyone with 12 or 13 year olds advise if there is anything which is 'in'?

This sort of thing seems to be very school dependent. I'd suggest your DC asks friends with older siblings, or you observe what children at the local school are wearing.
If what he has now doesn't scream "primary school" you could also stick with what he has now and let him make his own decisions once he's actually at school.

Different schools, different areas have different "in" things. One tip make sure anything you get complies with school uniform dress code and if it doesn't please don't post sad face local paper stories about being sent home to change them.

I agree, speak to local parents who have children at the school.
