Hello, I am after some advice /honest reviews. I am holding a place at Mount House school in North London, for my DC to start in September 2022 year 7. Has anyone else accepted? Does anyone have children that go to the school and are they happy? I really liked the school when I looked round although a little small i got a good feel for it. Any opinions or reviews would be greatly appreciated. Many Thanks

Hi @KCM6, have you made your decision? We are going to their open day in June, it seems to be an affordable private option for us...we've moved so no longer in the catchment of the good state school... So, it's either getting into one of the grammar schools or a private school but budget cannot stretch to those like Habs, NLCS etc.

Hi @littlebull yes we have decided to go for it. The feedback in Private M essage on here and in another group that I have posted on, have all been really positive , and all from parents whose children are in the school. I also had another look around with my daughter, the school were more than accommodating for us to pop in at short notice to have a look around. The school seems to have a really happy vibe.

Hi we are thinking of sending our child - I don’t know anyone who has sent their child - can you recommend- the open day was great.

My daughter is there! She absolutely loves it. In fact, she changes from another school to go to MH.

It's a very friendly school - lovely atmosphere. Both teachers and students are very nice and it's not crazy strict like some other schools in the area (my daughter was previously at another independent that was insanely strict and she finds Mount House friendlier in every way). Huge offering of different after school clubs as well.

She will be there on the open day to show you round 😂as they were all asked to come in

Was your DD at St John’s @XelaM ? That’s the only “insanely strict” school I know in the area.
I know more than a dozen in the school in recent years. There’s a bit of a clear out for 6th form but that’s not a bad thing necessarily. All say the school is small and nurturing, and truly knows the kids.

XelaM · 08/09/2022 07:24

@NOTANUM Haha well spotted! I actually really liked St John's - beautiful grounds, amazing door-to-door bus service, superb school trips, big focus on sports and academics, very traditional old-school, all homework always gets marked, great GCSE results and they do German... and they are cheap!

BUT... it doesn't suit all kids and my daughter hated it because the teachers were very strict and demanding, the uniform was ugly and it's definitely not as relaxed and nurturing as Mount House. I kept trying to persuade her to stay, but she was adamant she wanted to go to Mount House despite having goof friends at St John's. She knew quite a few people at Mount House already though, so she wasn't nervous about the switch.

St John's definitely not the only strict school in the area though. Wren Academy and the academy with no speaking in the corridors whose name escapes me as well as the grammars like HBS are all even stricter. Latymer may not be strict but I hear they had another suicide over the summer. 😢 From the private schools, Habs is definitely strict.

St John's also have a more goody-goody academic or very sporty (football) type kids, those who like following rules, whereas my daughter is definitely not academic and more of a "cool" girl 🥶who cares much more about how she looks in the morning than her school work unfortunately 🤦‍♀️(total opposite of how I was) and she likes that MHS is not strict about things like uniform violations (her skirt almost literally could not be shorter 😬) but generally the. Are very friendly. Also they have much more of a choice of subjects gor GCSEs than St Johns
