Camden School for Girls waiting list 2022

Just thought, for future applicants, it might be worth sharing our experience of Camden School for Girls waiting list. Aware that this is just one data point, but it might be useful for someone in years to come.

We don't live near enough to CsfG for any realistic chance of a local place so let our daughter apply for music place. She was keen on all-girls, and quite musical having done Gr4 in a non-orchestral instrument. She got through the 1st round aptitude test (top 50 out of not sure but over 100 we assume) and then did the audition. She auditioned with her instrument and voice. They offer 3 direct from the aptitude test and then 5 from the next 50 who have taken the audition (ability stream).

Afterwards the school told us she was 41st and 15th on the aptitude/ability stream waitlists respectively. We were also were told which band she was in from the separate banding test.

On Friday (4 days after allocations came out), Camden told us she was 17th and 6th on aptitude/ability stream waitlists respectively. (Also 34th on banding). Obviously it will vary from year to year, and no way of knowing which numbers on the list have "dropped" out, but essentially half of the music waitlists above us either got allocated a more preferred school, or rejected the offer in the first few days after allocation.

How infuriating.

All those parents using CSG as a banker school when they would prefer private, skewing the banding towards the high end, meaning that local girls in band D aren't likely to get their local school.

Good for individuals, and I can see why parents do it, but infuriating all the same.

We live 0.97 miles away and our daughter was in band b and we got an offer yesterday- we were number 2 last week on waiting list, number 5 on the original offer day. Just in case that helps anyone in the future.

@MajorGeneralDogsbody, did your DD eventually get a spot? Mine is about to sit the audition next week. Do I understand correctly that there are same 5 places, but you can get to there from either list? I.e. if you were higher on the aptitude test but lower on ability test you can get the place earlier that someone the other way around? Hard to wrap my head around the concept! Thank you very much for your post!!

@Frogusha sorry no more information on the wait list as we pulled out fairly soon after I posted. As far as I understood it there were 8 places - 3 purely on aptitude (to find the kids with great raw potential) and then another 5 with the audition score also counted. You sit on 2 different waitlists and could get a place from either depending on movement. Then there are also 4 separate waitlists from the banding for all the main non-music spots - accepting equal amounts from each. I don't know whether they take banding into account for the music waitlists (e.g. if a girl in band B didn't take up their aptitude place would then then look for the next band B in the aptitude waitlist?). I suspect not, as you might never have a chance if none of the original selection were in your band. Best of luck for your DD next week!

@MajorGeneralDogsbody thanks again for your post! DD is number 8 on ability list, hope it’ll move as well as last year. She’s in Band A also, hope that improves her chances though the admission rules are too wondrous to work out!

@Frogusha fingers crossed for you and your DD!
