Appeal process-appeal to school directly

Apologies as the title probably doesn't make a lot of sense. So, like everyone else, today we received our allocated place for secondary school. We received a place for our second choice (amazingly as it was a grammar school, oversubscribed also out of catchment 🤷‍♀️).

However, there were lots of reasons why we put a different school as first choice, and of course now would like to appeal to try and see if we can get chosen school.

I've followed the links and found on the council site, below 'how to appeal' etc it has our first choice school as one of the few where the appeal is directly to school. Feeling a little discombobulated today, so wondering if I've understood that this means no need to contact the council with regards to appeal? I did call, I believe the lady I spoke to thought I was very stupid and just told me to follow the links via email Blush

Also, I'm having a very stupid day today, appealing won't mean we lose our allocated slot? I'm worried that I'll do something silly along the lines and end up with a place at a school we didn't choose at all Confused

Thank you for reading...still shocked regarding the space we got 😂

Appealing has no affect on your current allocation, don't worry.

A number of academies organize their own appeals, so yes, use the links to contact them directly, that's perfectly fine!

@PatriciaHolm thank you so much, not surprised the lady on the phone had a little giggle 🤭 I don't think I'd realised some schools have their own process and not via council 🤦🏽‍♀️

Accept the place you have been offered and appeal for your first choice. Been there, done that and won.
Good luck!

Thank you @clarrylove , the email I have received states I don't need to confirm with the council but school may contact us to confirm place (in which case I will accept).
Have filled appeal form and added to waiting list.

First time applying for schools, so was hoping for an easy ride 😂
