DD is in year 10. Is this a school exam or part of GCSE coursework? (dimwit emotion)

Also, is it just biology? Hope someone can help.

My dd is in Yr 11 and at this time last year she did two of her science modules which were part of her GCSE so it could well be one of those. Over the course of the year she did six modules - two each time - i.e. 2 biology, 2 physics and 2 chemistry and I think each school can choose which ones they do each session. You really need to get your dd to ask her science teachers what modules she is doing.

Many thanks larry. Yes, she has come home with a revision guide with the modules

It will be part of her final GCSE mark.

Nowerdays GCSE sciebce exams consist of internaly marked formal exams (set by the exam board), assessed practical skills work, module exams and synoptic exams at the end of year 10 and year 11.

They may well just be for biology, as they sit separate modules for chemistry, physics and biology and may sit the modules at different times, depending on what they have covered in the lessons.

Agree with Larry, you need to check with the school what they will be doing.

But module exams do count towards the final grade.

What exam board is your DD using, Pimmpom?

All our Y10/11 testing is the work that goes towards their GCSE mark. We don't really have enough time to give them school tests, and fit in the required number of 'internally assessed activities'

There isn't any coursework now in Science - hooray!
