Hi,

DS has a few offers - considering Ibstock /Emanuel/Wetherby Senior. Anyone with the good, bad and ugly of any of these? Which type of boy would flourish at each? Have some flexibility wrt location.

Thanks!

Looking at these same schools for next year with DS. Liked the idea of co Ed for him but really heard great things about Wetherby.

Hi @Raisingtwins. Following this with interest as we are also choosing between Emanuel and Ibstock. Congrats on the offers! Definitely leaning towards Emanuel - mainly as it seems more down to earth/grounded, but waiting for the open days as my DS hasn’t seen Ibstock yet. He’s sporty, quite academic, loves history and science and also enjoys art.

Hi, we have a daughter in Emanuel and we have only good things to say about experience with this school. Lots of sports- child is active and very very happy. Good drama and music. Lots of extracurricular activities- but they are mostly at lunchtime and the child simply doesn’t time to eat and to rush to these. Some in the morning which we happily attend. Kind children, some amazing teachers. Great facilities. The only downside I would say is the absence of school buses. The area gets quite dark and empty after 4 pm and some parts around Clapham Junction are quite rough.

I would add that we have not considered Ibstock Place because of the location. Lindy commute really does make a difference. I have friends with a boy in Wetherby. While the school is generally a good one they don’t have the facilities that Emanuel has. If your boy likes sports and the commute is not a problem, it would be no brainer for me.

Typo in my previous post and I don’t know who the hell Lindy is! It should say: I think commute makes a difference.

@Mama7677 thanks for your helpful comments. We are definitely leaning towards Emanuel. Do you know roughly what proportion of kids come in from Clapham Junction station? I’m hoping my son would meet lots of kids walking the same way to make it a bit easier (actual journey is easy for us), especially at the beginning.

Mama7677 · 18/02/2022 14:20

Sure, lots of kids walk together to the station. They have their small groups they walk in!

@Raisingtwins have you decided yet? We visited Emanuel and Ibstock again yesterday and pretty sure we are going with Emanuel. DS was absolutely buzzing after the taster lesson there. Wondering how everyone else getting on with their decisions.
