Hoe Valley School - Woking

My son is going to secondary school next year and I would like to have opinions about Hoe Valley School.

I'm after advice and experiences about Hoe Valley School...

Our DS goes there and is very happy (as happy as a teenager going to school can be that is!) The longer school day is good and the work load is managed really well this way with opportunities to complete homework in prep lessons. They issue all the year 7's with Chromebooks which they keep until Year 11. We were worried initially that all the work would be completed on these without having handwritten notes but we were completely wrong, our DS has exercise books full of writing and diagrams, etc. The Chrome books really complement their learning and lessons and also enable the teachers to set homework and send messages. Hard work doesn't go unnoticed and they have very good incentive schemes in place. I'm sure that's the case in many other schools (I've got nothing else to base it on) but I would definitely recommend HVS to anyone, it's surpassed our expectations.

Sorry about the lack of paragraphs - I'm tired but perhaps I need to go back to school!

I know a good number of parents with children at HV and all are happy with the school.
I looked at it last Oct for my son - the opening evening was good and I would have been happy to send him there but we do not live close enough.
It is over subscribed every year so do check that you have a realistic chance of a place - you can see how places were allocated and the furthest distance for previous years on Surrey’s website. Of course this is no guarantee for next year as it depends on number of siblings, birth rate etc but it will give you an indication.
