Epsom College Failing at Oxbridge?

I have a young DS at EC and have seen a considerable decline of Oxbridge offers compared to other similar Independent Schools. Does anyone know why?

More applicants than usual with centre assessed grades

I understand in recent news EC had achieved Oxbridge success in Theology. As a broad comment, EC (like other popular London independent schools) would be considered more an all rounder independent school, and not one typical of their students defining success in life with an Oxbridge degree. It is not to say it is impossible, just a pathway less well defined in Oxbridge/ Ivy League success metric.

Of the top 20 Schools named in the Telegraph OxBridge offers list, the named 20 have a clearly defined intake of of children with the capability, ambition to teaching staff to help facilitate future education in the top ranking universities.

This is not a factor I would consider important. There may be years in which the upper sixth pupils may have ambition in different directions, e.g. a high proportion of medics/vets/dentists heading for competitive fields away from Oxbridge. Some very able students may be looking for courses not offered by Oxbridge, or not want the course content offered there. Maybe you are too invested in wanting this for your DS. Let him decide on course/uni in a few years time. Most sixth formers don't go to oxbridge and are successful too!

It just changes from year to year.

My nephews are at a London independent and whilst the school still secures Oxbridge places, they’ve had absolutely no joy with Medicine recently. Now all the patents are panicking about their kids’ chances of becoming a doctor.
