Hockerill Anglo-European College

My son is going to secondary school next year and I would like to have opinions about Hockerill Anglo-European College.

I know its very hard to get into Hockerill as a day schooler.

I'm after advice and experiences about Hockerill...

Are you in Bs?

Not sure if you mean for sept 22 or sept 23 but to get a day pupil place but you need to be super close to get in. I know of at least three families on Warwick road who moved in the hope of a place and didn't get in.
It also depends on siblings, I know there are a fair few in the sept 22 intake

Aptitude is different as is flexi boarding if you can afford it, though the facilities for the flexi children are a bit tired

We will be within 0.5 miles from Hockerill.
Not sure about the catchment area.
I am not looking for Flexi boarding.

‘Fraid places based on distance are hard to come by. You would generally need to be less than 1000m . Many of the day places go to siblings. The other option is 12 places via music/language aptitude.

Globetrotter123 · 03/02/2022 21:42

Sorry the 1000m was last year as they increased intake . Normally it is more like 7-800m so you should just about be ok but as pointed out above Warwick Road isn’t far and seems not to be a dead cert. I think though that they may be trying to increase intake permanently.

Hersetta427 · 04/02/2022 17:38

800m will be touch and go. After siblings, boarders, aptitude , children of staff etc they only offer around 20-22 places two thirds of which go to children at local feeder primary schools so there really are very few places- some years the distance has been as low as 400m.

It's a great school and highly sought after but didn't suit us and we didn't even list it on our secondary application as Saturday school wouldn't have worked for DD as she does a sport to an elite standard on Saturday.

Hello,

My first post on mumset!

I was interested in your comment about sport at Hockerill. We have applied for my son Y7 (we are returning to the UK in September).

Son is very into hockey, football and cricket. I too was a little concerned that Saturday school would make participation in county level sport or club level sport difficult.

I just wanted to ask for comments on this. Does most outside school sport happen ion a Saturday?

It will depend completely on the sport and the leagues they play in. Saturday or Sunday for all those sports. Have you spoken to clubs in the area to see when they play? Stortford has good cricket and hockey clubs and many youth football clubs. Most football is Sunday at that age.

Turns out it was 400m for admission by distance this year. Def lower than last few years.

@SophiaJohn just wondering if you managed to get into Hockerills based on your distance from the school? Hope you did!🙏
