My DD recently received an offer from GHS. We live in Camberley and was wondering how the commute via train is. Would be great to hear from parent's whose daughters go there. Many thanks in Advance.

It's not a very common route into GHS so while there will no doubt be some along the way, it's not like the larger numbers who'll get on other places/routes. It's also a bit fiddly as there aren't too many trains an hour from Camberley and you also need to link in with the hop from Guildford main station to London Road. Probably fine if all the trains run on time.....

By contrast, if you were the M&S of town and were going from Blackwater to Guildford main, that would be easy. Not sure you can easily improve things if you aren't near Blackwater/North Camp.

FWMade · 08/02/2022 18:07

@GU24Mum we live a few minutes drive from Blackwater so we will aim for that. Its a much shorter journey that going from Camberley. Thank you

Our dd got an offer at GHS too, we live in New Malden area, close to surbiton station. I hear some girls get on this stop, just want some reassurance that there's good number of girls get on?

GU24Mum · 14/02/2022 08:47

She won't literally be the only one from there and lots will get on a bit further down the line but it's the outer edge of where the girls will come from.

Your DD (and you!) might find that you're quite a way from friends in terms of meeting up out of school and that the girls who live close to you will mostly be at other schools. I've seen that you're also looking at LEH and you're more likely to have other girls from there living close to you.

@alidasi I'm tagging you so you can see the message more easily.

alidasi · 14/02/2022 09:03

Oh that's so much. I don't know how to tag peopel

alidasi · 14/02/2022 09:06

dd very lucky to receive offers from LEH and GHS so have major dilemma. She managed to get music scholar in both and an academic one in GHS. Both gd schools but GHS much cheaper.

FWMade · 14/02/2022 15:57

@alidasi Great to see we have others outside Guildford. @GU24Mum I know meeting up will be tricky but she is keen on going to GHS even though she has offers from St Catherine's and Farnborough Hill (which is closer to home).

@FWMade - you're not that far outside the more typical area and Blackwater is a quick run from Guildford. My comments were more aimed to the other poster. Hope the decision process goes well!

We're contemplating GHS too as have an offer and would commute from Blackwater. Nice to know others may be coming from there too.

alidasi · 15/02/2022 09:48

Hi all, I've been researching a lot and asking Qs re location and I hear lots of girls do get the train. To be sure am going to do a train journey myself as well as a driving to see if it's viable. LEH would be an easier option as have school bus near our house but our recent experience there was not good at all and overall journey time is the same as there's lots of traffic and stop offs around kingston area.

alidasi · 15/02/2022 09:55

Blackwater not that far? I see train journey is 20mins but need to change?

alidasi · 22/02/2022 06:32

Does anyone know if there are lots of after school commitments? Or is it purely down to one's choice of what after school activities they do?

Fifthtimelucky · 22/02/2022 08:51

@alidasi Assuming things are still the same as when my girls were at GHS, It's largely down to personal choice, but if your daughter is a music scholar they will expect her to join the relevant orchestras/bands/chamber group/choirs. From memory, some of those take place at lunchtime but some are after school.

If she's also sporty there will be matches after school some days.

She will have the opportunity to sign up for various clubs at the beginning of term.

Many thanks for your info! All sounds gd!

@alidasi,

We are in similar dilema deciding between LEH/GHS/Tiffins. We live in Norbiton/Coombe side. My daughter preference is GHS.
Have you guys made the final choice?. If my DS joins GHS,She may commute from Surbiton/Raynespark(Both are 5-10 mins drive).

Hi there, we have decided to go to LEH in the end. Commute to GHS is not impossible but LEH grounds and music facilities tick all the boxes for us and it's nearer esp on those after school stuff etc

alidasi · 10/03/2022 10:11

SUNDS...I think deadljne already passed?

SUNDS · 10/03/2022 11:08

Yes, the Deadline passed. We accepted GHS (over LEH) as my DS wants to go there which means 50 mins door to door commute. I spoke to few parents (their DS's are in Year9/GCSE at GCH) in Surbiton/Malden area and they said the commute is not a big problem at all. Even with LEH by bus (although nearer) with traffic it's taking 30-35 mins. School told us they divide the classes based on geography so that the play dates for kids wont be a big issue going forward.

All the very best for your DS at LEH.

All the best to you too! Choosing the right school is a personal choice. We are lucky to have so many good schools in this area.
