Need suggestions on schools for high functioning kids

We live in Hounslow, London.
My son is 8 years old. He is in year 3. He is high functioning and goes to mainstream school. He is good at maths but struggling with comprehension, social skills and concentration. We are thinking of Gretton school, Cambridge.
We are able to relocate. if there is any good school until sixth form.
We consider (not considering special schools as he might learn behaviours from other kids)

  1. mainstream school that has good support for SEN
  1. School for High functioning kids

Please can you add valuable suggestions here regarding Gretton school or any other school throughout England.

Thanks in advance.

There are grammar schools for academically able children but they required high scores on the 11+ which may not be easy for someone with comprehension or concentration difficulties.

Sorry, do you mean he has high functioning autism?

Does he have SEN? An EHCP?

Chocolate999 · 24/01/2022 15:07

@TheChemicalMother yes he has high functioning autism

@Howshouldibehave yes he has ehcp. he currently has 1-1 support at school. But struggling with comprehension in science and english. So what our plan is we can teach him maths at home. So want to fill the gaps regarding communication, creative thinking and comprehension

and definitely not concerned about grammar schools either, definitely it's going to be difficult for him to get the place.

Have you considered More House in Frensham? A friend's son with HFA is there and it's made a massive difference to him, both in terms of his literacy and his emotional wellbeing. I know you said "no special schools", but he certainly hasn't picked up any problematic behaviours from his peers.

There's a NAS school in Lewisham specifically for kids who have ASD but expect to do well academically. I think it's secondary only though.
